John Ward was a sailor and farmer from the County. He was the husband of Mam, the patriarch of the Ward family and father of Thomas Ward

Biography[]

John Ward was born and bred in The County and was the youngest of seven brothers. As a young sailor, he traveled to Greece where he found Mam tied to a rock with a silver chain. He rescued her, and they lived together in Greece for a time, during which Mam learned that her rescuer was a seventh son. This sparked a plan in which Mam rejected her Sisters idea of sacrificing John, and instead returned to the County, where the two got married and had seven sons.

He later became a farmer after Mam purchased Brewers Farm near the village of Topley. Years later, he was living with his wife, his eldest son Jack, his youngest son Thomas and Jack's wife Ellie, when Mam arranged for Tom to be apprenticed to the local spook, John Gregory. He also became a grandfather after the birth of Mary Ward.

Some time into Tom's training, John caught pneumonia and eventually died. His funeral was attended by all of his sons, excluding Tom, who arrived too late due to Jack sending the letter to the wrong address. The farm was then taken over by his eldest son Jack.
